Integration Community for the Aging Population
Project: Integration Community for the Aging Population
Architect: Anna Sukhaia
Project Year: 15 February 2024
Project Description:
The core concept of this residential project is the thoughtful integration of the ageing population back into society, addressing feelings of isolation and providing purpose. Designed with three distinct housing types that can be configured into cohesive arrangements, the community promotes interaction and engagement among residents. A unifying terrace space links the homes, offering benches, hammocks, and tables for games, creating a central area for relaxation and social activities. Residents can easily retreat to the privacy of their own homes when desired.
Various housing options: detached houses and combined houses for several people
In addition to the residential spaces, several social facilities foster intergenerational communication and engagement. The lecture hall allows the older generation to share their knowledge and experience with younger visitors, facilitating discussions on topics of mutual interest. This space is also designed for younger participants to offer insights on modern technology and digital tools, fostering reciprocal learning.

The project also includes a coworking zone with workshop areas where traditional crafts—such as knitting, sewing, woodworking, and pottery—are taught and practised. These activities serve as both a source of enjoyment and potential income for older residents.

A local café-restaurant, styled as a family kitchen, provides residents with the opportunity to share culinary skills, recreating beloved family recipes and offering a homely experience for visitors.

The design prioritises accessibility, with paths and trails constructed at a single level, ensuring ease of movement for all mobility needs. Parks and playgrounds are integrated throughout, enhancing community spaces and supporting interaction among all age groups.

The project’s overarching goal is to create an environment that fosters a sense of belonging and supports the integration of the ageing population into the fabric of contemporary society.
