How often do you feel shivers on the back, because of the sense cold a visual piece atmosphere creates? Not so often, hence an artist needs to be a master of his/her practice to do that. I can tell you for sure Anna Salyaeva is one those not many masters.
Bashkiria-born ceramist is a recent alumnus of such renowned institutions as Savour Ceramic School (2019) and Stroganov Moscow State Academy of Arts & Industry (2020). The artist is also experienced in interior design, she acquired this training at the British Higher School of Art & Design (2014-2016).

Salyaeva's art is a rare example where you see playful fusion of contemporary techniques and ancient refences. By that I do not mean that one will find some bison hunt scenes in her artworks. I mean that as a spectator you feel how tactile her works are, even though sometimes it does not look as if the artist used the potter's wheel, while producing them, like it was the prehistoric times.

The passion that Salyaeva has for traveling has also found a place in her oeuvre. She has already been to 27 countries and plans to visit much more. This vast experience affected her practice: love to glazes and different clay types she brings from places all around the world. The artist believes these materials possess certain mystical energy that may be passed to the spectators of her art.

Another interesting moment about Salyaeva's ceramics, is these abstract pieces mimic the nature. Like Giuseppe Penone she uses plain forms that can be found in the woods, or on the bottom of the sea. Well, ceramics itself as an art practice is earth-born, so it quite easy to trace this pattern.

Creative language the artist uses may seem simple and complicated at the same time, but in fact what Salyaeva does is she brings to light our feelings and emotions that we sometimes hide even from ourselves.
